Top Basketball Movies (8 & 7)

8. Teen Wolf (1985)
Starring: Michael J. Fox, Jerry Levine, Susan Ursitti

In every high school there is a kid that turns into a werewolf and uses his crazy athletics werewolf powers to dunk all over everyone in basketball games. Oh wait, that was only in Teen Wolf. Scott Howard is a regular kid that isn't very good at basketball and never gets the girl of his dreams. Once he starts turning into the Wolf he scores 40 points a game and can get any girl he wants. Not to mention he could dance like there's no tomorrow. After his bball teammates get mad at him for being a selfish show-off, Scott decides to play the final game as himself. Of course he kills it with points, assists and steals. Interestingly enough he does some of the exact same plays three or four times. The best moment in referee history was when they allowed Mick to stand directly underneath the basket after he fouled out so that he could stare at Scott while he shot the winning free throws.

7. The 6th Man (1997)
Starring: Marlon Wayans, Kadeem Hardison, David Paymer

Wow, two extremely realistic movies in a row. In The 6th Man two brothers, Antoine and Kenny Tyler (A&K All the Way), are at U of Washington playing basketball. The older brother, Antoine, is the star, while Kenny does most of the dirty work on the team. During one of the first games of the season Antoine falls into cardiac arrest and dies on his way to the hospital. The follow up to this is one of the saddest moments in movie history. Sure enough Antoine comes back as a ghost to help Kenny and the Huskies get to the Final Four. Kenny has to deal with the many problems that come with having a ghost for a brother, but Washington does make the NCAA finals. Somewhere along the way Kenny's teammates find out about Antoine and decide that don't want to play with him anymore. Kenny makes the difficult decision to tell Ant that he has to leave.
