Idol Results, Top 24- Trading Places
Spoiler Alert...Below are the results and some thoughts on last night's episode of American Idol. So before reading any further, watch the ep, put on your pink puffy shirt, then read what I have to say.
First, a few quick thoughts on what I thought of the girls on Wednesday night...Utterly uninteresting. There were a couple of performances that I enjoyed - Thia Megia and Pia - but everyone else I could have cared less about. I am always gender biased in this competition, but the guys once again have more talent, no matter what the judges or producers will try to tell you for the second straight year.
Now onto last night's results show, which was decently entertaining if only because there were so many people getting through and getting cut in one night. Let's start with America...GOOD EFFING JOB! They finally did their job only to let the judges screw everything up with the wildcards a half hour later. Jacob, Paul, Casey, Scotty and James was pretty obvious immediately following the guys performance show. I thought the girls was more wide open, but my prediction of Thia, Pia, Lauren A, Karen, and Naima was only off in that America liked little Haley Reinhart more than the African Princess. Would I personally have rather seen Robbie Rosen make it instead of James Durbin? Yes, but I think Durbin deserved it more, hence my prediction.
And then we got to the portion of the show when the judges had to make some decisions. Boy did they fail miserably. You choose three guys and three girls to perform once again as wildcards. I had no problem with the three girls selected to sing. I'm not biased because she's on my fantasy team and I predicted her to get the wildcard, it's just that Kendra was definitely the best out of the three girls to perform. The fact that she was the only one to not make is ridiculous. Then there were the three guys selected. Really? Jovany? He's on my team and even I didn't want him to sing again. JJ made a good point in that there's no way they needed to see him go again because he's the same as Stefano and the judges already knew they liked Stefano more. Why not give Jordan Dorsey a second chance to sing something not by Usher? Oh because he's a dick and has been mouthing off about the producers making him sing Usher? Well then okay. I agree with Stefano being the best guy of the three wildcards, but both Robbie and Jovany were better than the girls. Seeing as this is yet another "year of the ladies" on Idol, they had to take two girls and only one guy. Terrible.
So we head to the Finals with a Top 13. Who will take home the championship? I am rooting for Paul McDonald at this point. Sure it may be because he's the only person I have left on my team, but did you see that jacket he was wearing last night? Classic.
Before we get to the fantasy scores, let's talk about the blockbuster trade that went down following the draft and the two performance shows. Tyson, who drafted Tim Halperin and Jordan Dorsey in the first two rounds, sent both guys over to Larry's team. Larry in turn handed over eventual Top 13'ers Haley Reinhart and Ashton Jones. Immediately following this trade me and Jayj chatted about how terrible it was for Larry. It wasn't that the two chicks were really any better than the two dudes that Larry received, but it was that the girls' finalist spots were so wide open. The guys were basically locked up...yeah maybe Jordan Dorsey had an outside shot at a wildcard (if the guys had received two), but he was not getting in the Top 10 with that Usher performance. Fantasy Reality TV history was made here, and Tyson got the best of last year's champion in this one.
Overall Pick in parentheses.
