This is Jessica Sanchez's first nomination and win for the best female reality competition contestant of the season. Here to discuss her rapid rise to stardom is Poolie voter, Jack.
__________________________
For the last three seasons, American Idol has really flipped the script with the female contestants. After eight years of putting up with the boring girls’ performances, they have recently been the ones who I look forward to the most. Season nine gave us Bowersox and Didi Benami, and season 10 introduced us to the amazing Haley Reinhart. With no disrespect to those three, even with how great they were, they could not carry Jessica Sanchez’s gym bags. Jessica has the best vocal ability I have ever seen in the competition outside Adam Lambert. And the fact that she is only 16 is all the more impressive. By the time she hits her prime, she may be in consideration as one of the best voices of all time. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Jessica was her versatility. We have seen such different dynamics before from a guy (the aforementione Lambert), but never from the female side. She roared out of the gates with “I Will Always Love You,” which was pitch perfection, out-dueling Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks who performed the same song at different award show tributes. That performance, along with “You Are So Beautiful” and “The Prayer,” proved she could sing the ballads as good as anyone. Have you ever seen anyone hold those high notes with so much ease? But there was much more to Jessica than slow ballads. She brought out her jazzy side on many occasions, most notably her performance of “Steal Away.” Say what you want about that growl, but I thought it was fantastic. Just when you think you’ve seen everything this girl had to offer, top four week came, and Jessica brought singing to new heights. The performance of the season, and maybe the series, was her take on “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” We’ve heard this song done so many times, but she put absolutely everything she had into this two minute show. I have never seen someone put so much heart and emotion into a performance and still nail every single note. They should have stopped the show and crowned her right then and there.
Unfortunately, there was a group of people against Sanchez. It is not possible for any contestant to have no haters, that’s the way our world works. But the arguments that the haters tried to come up with for disliking her were absurd. I heard claims of her showing no emotion? Please. Did you not see that single tear come down her cheek after she left her heart on the stage singing “..I’m Not Going.” I also heard that she is too pageanty and rehearsed. So these people are mad that she has been singing her whole life and has been coached how to sing? How dare someone practice their craft before entering Idol. And perhaps the most absurd comments were how she was arrogant. I don’t know what show those people were watching, but what I saw was a very humble, innocent, 16 year old girl who is living out her dream. And even if she does think she is a great singer, wouldn’t you if you were in her shoes? There was only one acceptable complaint of Jessica Sanchez. And that is her occasional bad song choices. If she had picked the right songs week in and week out, she may have been able to put up the greatest singing season of all time. But as for now, she will go down as the 2nd best in my book, right behind Adam Lambert.

The Kellie Pickler Award- Female in Reality

Place. Nominee (Series) Points (My Vote)
10. Danielle Keene (Top Chef) 0 points

8. Tara Murphy (Ultimate Catch) 2 points (4th)
7. Mallory Ervin (Amazing Race) 3 points (3rd)
6. Mary Sue Milliken (Top Chef) 4 points
5. Chelsea Kane (Dancing w/ the Stars) 5 points
4. Andrea Boehlke (Survivor) 8 points
3. Brenda Lowe (Survivor) 8 points (5th)
2. Britney Haynes (Big Brother) 14 points (1st)
and the Poolie goes to...
1. Haley Reinhart (American Idol) 19 points (2nd)
This is Haley Reinhart's first Poolie nomination and first ever win for best female reality competition contestant.
Haley had a lot of things going for her this Poolies season. First off, there were hardly any enjoyable females on Survivor. Secondly, not enough people watched Big Brother to take in the awesomeness of Britney Haynes. And finally, Haley had both fantastic performances and a killer attitude. Her "Benny of the Jets" gets me going every time I listen to it, and every time the judges made a negative statement about her, she had perfect reactions. Whether it was shrugging them off or rolling her eyes, it was great to see her realize that these judges were as terrible as ever.

Spring Poolies Watch- Reality and Others
With only two months left in the Poolies season, it's time to take another look at how things are shaking out before the final ballots are released on June 1st. Here's your chance to agree or disagree with the chairman in order to give whatever show or character tickled your fancy this year a shot at glory. Next up are the reality awards along with a few others, let's take a look around the pool...The Battle of the Network Stars Award For Best Reality Competition Series
Definites
Big Brother, Top Chef, Survivor, American Idol, The Amazing Race, and The Sing Off. Nothing to see here folks. Keep moving.
In For Now
Bachelor Pad, Ultimate Catch, America’s Got Talent, and The Bachelor. Sometimes I think about switching this award to only five nominees, but then I think about getting rid of one of the six above and realize that is not possible. With The Voice and X-Factor on the way, it seems even less possible.
The Terry Fator Award For Best Male Reality Competition Contestant
Definites
Enzo (Big Brother), Hayden (Big Brother), Richard Blais (Top Chef All-Stars), Morgan (Top Chef Desserts), and Phil Sheppard (Survivor Redemption Island). Morgan’s hatred of Zac, who you’ll find on the most hated list in a bit, was ultimately what made him a definite.
In For Now
Kevin (Top Chef), Lane (Big Brother), Jesse Kovacs (Bachelor Pad), Zev and Justin (Amazing Race 18), and Paul McDonald (American Idol). Unlike with the scripted series, there is a lot of time left for reality contestants to make their moves. No one is safe, but these five are even less safe.
Outside Looking In
Fabio (Survivor Nicaragua), Mike Isabella (Top Chef All-Stars), Boston Rob (Survivor Redemption Island), Flight Time and Big Easy (Amazing Race 18), David Good (Bachelor Pad), and Jet and Cord (Amazing Race 18).
The Kellie Pickler Award For Best Female Reality Competition Contestant
Definites
Britney (Big Brother), Tara (Ultimate Catch), Brenda (Survivor Nicaragua), and Natalie (Bachelor Pad). If you watched Big Brother, you’re voting Britney number one. If you didn’t, you should watch one episode, so that you will have reason to vote her number one.
In For Now
Lauren Alaina (American Idol), Mallory (Amazing Race 18), Danielle (Top Chef Just Desserts), Amanda (Top Chef), Haley Reinhart (American Idol), and Ashley Underwood (Survivor Redemption Island). As always, this is a tough category to fill out, which causes me to think about adding judges and hosts to the category. Then I always nix that idea.
Outside Looking In
Monet (Big Brother), Kelly (Top Chef), Peyton (Bachelor Pad), Nat and Kat (Amazing Race 17), and Andrea Boehlke (Survivor Redemption Island). I don’t like any of these people.
The Crazy James Zinkand Award For the Reality Competition Contestant You Love to Hate
Definites
Rachel (Big Brother), Ragan (Big Brother), Zac (Top Chef Just Desserts), Jane (Survivor Nicaragua), and Gia (Bachelor Pad). The reality awards are worth it if only for this category. There are so many contestants that I can’t stand, but these five definitely took the cake over the course of the year for me.
In For Now
Alex (Top Chef), Wes (Bachelor Pad), NaOnka (Survivor Nicaragua), Ralph (Survivor Redemption Island), and Jacob Lusk (American Idol). Lots to hate on the most recent seasons of Survivor and American Idol. Give these guys time and they’ll make their way to the top.
Outside Looking In
James Durbin (American Idol), Naima Adedapo (American Idol), Brook and Claire (Amazing Race 17), Carla Hall (Top Chef All Stars), Margie and Luke (Amazing Race 18), and Holly (Survivor Nicaragua). And there were more! Keep the hate coming.

The Kellie Pickler Award- Female Reality Contestant
Named For: Kellie Pickler, finalist on American Idol Season Five

Last Year's Winner: Sugar Kiper- Survivor

Runner-Up
2. Jordan Lloyd (Big Brother/Amazing Race) 15 points (3rd)
and the Poolie goes to...
1. Parvati Shallow (Survivor)
27 points (1st)
Here with his thoughts on Parvati Shallow is Poolie voter Tyson...
It’s rare that someone I voted for ends up winning one of these awards, so I will give you the four reasons she got my vote, which, I assume, are the same five reasons she got other’s votes:
1. I am a huge fan of people who use physical attractiveness to get what they want and Parvati managed to bewitch several of last season’s males. Everyone kept saying that Russell had fallen under Parvati’s spell and really who can blame him. She’s definitely island hot, not sure about real world hot, but island hot…definitely. Note: If I were ever to go on survivor I would require all female alliances to spend one night of naked cuddling with me…let’s see where your loyalties really lie.
2. Her name is spelled Parvati but is pronounced poverty. The “r” has cast off all pronunciation rules and decided to make its presence felt right before the “ti”. Parvati has a rogue “r” and that definitely does not grind my gears.
3. During the challenge where survivors had to hold their arms straight out in order to push two cylinders against some wood, several of the female challengers were sporting enough armpit hair to make 12 year old boys everywhere green with envy. But, when the camera panned to Parvati…smooth as a Siamese cat.
4. She used to box while in college. Punching people in the face is cool and if you don’t think so then I’ve got a fresh knuckle sandwich with your name on it.
by Tyson Brazell
if you would like to hear Tyson's fifth reason for voting for Parvati feel free to ask him for it as it is too inappropriate for the Pool.

Poolies Watch- The Kellie Pickler Award
The Kellie Pickler Award is given each year to the best female contestant on a reality competition series. Just like last year, the nominations are looking bleak again in 2010. I can't even field 10 ladies at this point. Last season's champion, Sugar Kiper, is back for Survivor Heroes vs. Villains but I'm not looking for her to repeat. So far the only contestants I have truly enjoyed were Jordan Lloyd on Big Brother for her ridiculous stupidity and Joanna Krupa on The Superstars for her ability to yell and scream at Terrell Owens (and question how he is a professional football player).
Have Performed Well
Jordan Lloyd- Big Brother
Joanna Krupa- The Superstars
Kristi Leskinen- The Superstars
Monica Padilla- Survivor Samoa
I hope none of these jokes earn a spot on the ballot. Laura Crosby was a decent enough girl, but didn't make it longer than one or two weeks on Big Bro. Meghan from Amazing Race was actually annoying at times, but okay at others. I didn't like Laura Morett at all on Survivor Samoa, but could see others maybe enjoying her style. And all the Fab Five did on Talent was tap dance, but it was pretty sweet.
Didn't Do Much
Fab Five- AGT
Laura Crosby- Big Brother
Laura Morett- Survivor Samoa
Meghan- Amazing Race
Hopefully some talent will come out of Idol and the second editions of Survivor and Amazing Race, but things are looking bleak. The Poolies Committee might have to get rid of the Kellie Pickler Award and make the Terry Fator Award co-ed because these females just aren't cutting it lately.
If there is anyone out there from other shows (Top Chef, So You Think, Apprentice, etc.) let me know.
